Our Commissioning Priorities

NHS Eastern Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group is the main commissioner (planning and buying) for NHS Funded healthcare in Eastern Cheshire.

We are responsible for commissioning all the reasonable requirements of our patients by:

  • planning services, based on assessing the needs of our local population – through the Cheshire East Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and Joint Health & Wellbeing Strategy
  • buying  services that meet those needs
  • monitoring the quality of care provided

We are responsible for the following services (not an exhaustive list):

We are not responsible for commissioning

  • certain services commissioned directly by NHS England (e.g. dentists, pharmacies, ophthalmologists, prison health services)
  • public health improvement services commissioned by local authorities
  • health protection and promotion services provided by Public Health England

NHS England have produced a factsheet which gives the details of what NHS England and CCG's are responsible for in terms of commissioning, which you can download here.
